Wiring a GPS tracker into a heavy truck is usually messy. You tap into the power circuit here, pull ignition from somewhere else, run a CAN bus line from another point —, and by the time you’re done, you’ve got five separate connections and a nervous fleet manager asking whether any of this voids the truck’s warranty.

The Teltonika FMS Cable does it differently. One plug. One socket is already built into the truck. Everything you need comes through it.

What Is the FMS Cable?

FMS stands for Fleet Management System. It’s a standardised 12-pin connector that European truck manufacturers — including Volvo, Scania, DAF, MAN, Mercedes-Benz, Iveco, and Renault — built into their vehicles specifically so fleet management devices can access vehicle data without modifying the factory wiring.

The Teltonika FMS Cable connects your FMx6 series GPS tracker directly to that port. From one plug, you get:

  • Power supply for the tracker
  • The ignition detection tracker knows when the engine is on or off
  • CAN bus data via J1939 engine parameters, fuel consumption, odometer, vehicle speed, and more
  • K-line data tachograph live data reading
  • J1708 protocol supports fuel data from older truck systems

One connection handles everything. Nothing else needs touching.

The Problem This Cable Solves

Most aftermarket GPS installations tap directly into a truck’s wiring harness. That creates two problems.

First, it’s time-consuming. A proper installation across multiple connection points can take an experienced auto-electrician 45 minutes to an hour per vehicle. Scale that across a fleet of 20 trucks and you’re looking at significant installation cost before the tracking system even goes live.

Second, it risks the manufacturer’s warranty. Trucks are expensive assets. Major brands have warranty terms that can be affected by modifications to the electrical system. Connecting through the FMS port is a manufacturer-approved access method; it doesn’t modify the vehicle’s wiring, so the factory warranty stays intact.

The FMS Cable removes both problems at once.

What Data Does It Pull From the Truck?

When you connect through the FMS port, your Teltonika tracker reads live data directly from the truck’s own systems. The exact data available depends on what the truck’s ECU exposes via J1939, but typically includes:

Data CategoryData Pulled From the Truck
Engine & PerformanceEngine RPM, vehicle speed from ECU, engine load percentage, total engine hours, and coolant temperature.
Fuel MonitoringTotal fuel consumed, fuel consumption rate, and estimated remaining fuel.
Driver & ComplianceTachograph live data, driver hours, driver activity status, remote tachograph file download capability, and DDD files.
Axle & Load DataAxle weight data was supported by the truck ECU and FMS/J1939 data output.
Vehicle HealthOdometer reading, DTC fault codes, diagnostic trouble codes, and brake system status.

How It Works

  1. Locate the FMS port in the truck cab (usually under the dashboard or in the centre console area, position varies by manufacturer and model)
  2. Plug the Teltonika FMS Cable into the FMS socket
  3. Connect the other end to your FMx6 series tracker
  4. The tracker receives power, detects ignition, and starts reading CAN bus data immediately
  5. All data is transmitted to your Fleet Mate platform in real time

No cutting. No splicing. No relay wiring. The FMS port is designed exactly for this.

FMC6404G LTE Cat1Primary compatible device.
FMC6504G LTE Cat1Advanced version with dual RS232.
FMB6412G GSM2G fallback environments.
FMM6504G + 2GMulti-network version.

If you run FMC125 or FMC225, this cable is not for you; those trackers use a different wiring harness for CAN data. The FMS Cable is specifically designed for the FMx6 series.

Key Benefits at a Glance

One plug does everything Power, ignition, CAN data, and tachograph from a single FMS connection.

No wiring modifications. Plug in, plug out. Nothing gets cut or spliced.

Manufacturer warranty safe FMS is an approved access point. Factory warranty is not affected.

Rich truck data: Fuel consumption, engine hours, odometer, fault codes, and tachograph data in your Fleet Mate dashboard.

Fast installation dramatically reduces installation time versus traditional multi-point wiring.

Standardised connector Works across major European truck brands using the same 12-pin FMS standard.
